TOURS TO EXPLORE LATVIA WITH ANDRA.
Visit Latvia, Offer n° 5 :
SIGULDA & TURAIDA CASTLES
DURATION: 7H
Offer description :
Enjoy a beautiful day by car with a private guide, visit castles, and appreciate the scenic natural surroundings of Gauja National Park. Travel by car from Riga and explore Latvia through the Latvian countryside to the red-brick Turaida Castle, perfectly integrated into the landscape. "Turaida" translates to "God's Garden" in the ancient Livonian language, and the site lives up to its name. Some parts and two towers of the medieval castle were reconstructed in the 20th century, offering breathtaking views of Gauja National Park.
The Livonian Order Castle in Sigulda was initially built in 1207 as a castellan-type castle; however, it was later transformed into a convent-type building. It's possible to stroll along the walls of the ruins to enjoy the preserved atmosphere and stunning views of the Gauja River Valley and neighboring historical landmarks.
Prince Kropotkin constructed the new Sigulda Castle nearby in the 19th century. Explore the buildings of the adjacent manor, including workshops for artisans, artists, and designers.
Visiting Latvia also includes Gutman's Cave, the largest and tallest cavern-shaped cave niche in Latvia and the Baltic countries, which began forming in the post-glacial period about 10,000 years ago. The sandstone bears inscriptions of noble names, years, and coats of arms engraved by craftsmen. This sandstone marvel still preserves inscriptions dating back to the 17th century.
